In my practice as a coach, I meet many leaders who are worried about the state of the world – with reason. But many feel that it can be hard to find out where to start.

If you are around my age (46) – or younger – you will get to live the effects of the planetary situation – and we are already seeing it (I guess you noticed the weird weather too) In short, we have already transgressed the boundaries of how we use nature and we cannot stop too soon. Stockholm Resilience Centres research shows it clearly. The image below is from them:

So what can you do as a leader?

It can be hard to convince others about the inportance of this topic. As human brains are not designed to see dangers that are slowly progressing. But we can be smarter. I know that it is possible. Every day, in my job as a coach, I see how intelligent people like yourself can overcome limitations. We, as human beings need to go beyond our cognitive capabilities and be more smart. I know that you can do if – if you put your mind to it.

As a leader there are three rules of thumb you can follow and thereby minimize the human footprint wherever you have a say. If many leaders do that it will have an effect.

1) USE LESS RESSOURCES

We are trying to replace consumption with biodegradable materials and other environmentally friendly options. It is better. But it is best to use less.

2) LEAVE NATURE IN PEACE

When we interfeare with the balance of nature, only a few experts will understand the true consequences and history shows that people do not listen. So, it is better not to interfeare and leave nature in peace – whenever you can. E.g do not change the current in the sea by building artificial islands and leave wild nature on its own as much as you can.

3) REFLECT 3X

The world is complex and i tangled. The decisions you make as a leader will have consequences that you need to think through. I understand that finding time and peace to reflect is not always easy but try. The rule of thumb is to reflect on what the consequences are in third tire. Not just the immediate consequences. We need to think more long term and holisticly that what has been common practice in business for a long time.

Manage low self-esteem: 3 things you should be aware of when leading others

As a leader, it’s important to be aware if some of your employees have low self-esteem so you can lead them well and help them build more self-worth. It is possible to develop more self-esteem as an adult, and a boss can play a role in that. It benefits both the employee, the company, and the boss if the employee gains more self-esteem.
